Swim Drills

Rotate drill

This drill introduces rotation into the stroke. When swimming a long distance front crawl stroke, most of the time the swimmer should be on the side. with rotation of the body on each stroke.
This rotation is lead by the lead arm, with the recovery arm following this lead.
This drill can be swum as a progression from the Shark Fin drill changing arm every 5 meters initially, and then progressing into changing lead arm each time

Key points to note are :-
  • Rotation of the body should be lead by the lead arm, too many times do we see swimmers move the recovery arm first and then this is followed by the lead arm.
  • Initially change arms approximately every 5m.
  • Make sure you continue to take a breath each arm movement as in the Shark Fin drill.
  • Increase the frequency of side change as you get more relaxed and comfortable you are leading with the front arm.
Other points to note in the video :-
